The next day…
Rae
I sat, cross legged in my desk,
shoes on the floor. Coach talking about his life, trying to compare it to the
lesson of logic's. And here I thought we’d be learning about Business Cycles. I began
to draw in my notebook. We were up all night, searching the Beastiary. Nothing about
what she saw, or what left the marks on my leg. She had managed to fall asleep
while we were reading, but she was fine when we woke her up later. She said she
saw the hair moving, almost like snakes. There was absolutely nothing. I
glanced over to the seat next to but one down from me. Stiles was dead asleep,
eyes closed, lips puckered, but not far out. I smiled at him. He was so beautiful.
Scott waved and I looked over to the seat beside mine. He nodded back to Stiles
and winked. I looked at coach, whose back was still turned, slipped out of my
seat, and kissed Stiles, and sat back down as Stiles woke up and stretched.
Then sighed, and leaned forwards, as Scott whispered something. Stiles’ eyes
popped open, and he crossed his arms over his lap. I giggled and then jumped as
a book hit my desk. Coach stood next to my desk, glowering down at me. “Anderson!
What is so funny?!” He hollered. “Nothing Coach. Promise.” He harrumphed and
walked away. For the first time that day, I noticed something about Tamara. She
was kinda slumped over, and slouchy. It was weird. The bell rang and she dodged
out. I pulled my bad up and over, Stiles doing the same, looking at me
confused. I shrugged and followed him out of the room. “What was that all
about?” Scott looked just as confused as us. “No idea. Don’t even know where
she went.” I noticed her locker was ajar. Walking over, I opened it. “Her
tails.” I opened the large black box. “1, 2, 3, 4, 5… Where’s the sixth one?”
Scott asked peering over my shoulder. “Obsidian. Shurikens, these are really
big. Aren’t they supposed to be discreet?” I asked looking at the boys. “What
are you doing?” Tamara was glowering at me. “Oh, just making sure nobody stole
your stuff. Where were you?” Scott answered grabbing her hand. “I had to go to
the bathroom. Sorry didn’t mean to scare you.” I walked slower than everyone
else. Tamara would never had snapped like that. She would have freaked because
her locker was open. And she would have thanked me for making sure everything
was ok. She turned and looked at me, and suddenly my leg began to burn. “Agh!”
I slid my hand over it, but it didn’t help. I knew what was happening. It had happened
once before. Something or someone was trying to turn me. Make me burst into a
flaming ball. I dodged into the bathroom, and into one of the stalls. “Rae?!” I
heard Tamara yell, busting into the room. Stay
quiet. Don’t cry out. Damn this hurts! “Rae? Where are you? You know. I
never liked you. I always wanted you to be the first to go.” She kicked open
the first stall. Then the second, the third. Just as she was about to discover
me, Stiles came in, “Sorry ladies, my girlfriend came in here, uh not that she’s
my girlfriend exactly. Oh um Rae that wasn’t supposed to come out that way…”
His voice trailed and I came out. “Where’s Tamara?” I asked looking around. “She
bolted. Why? What’s wrong?” I grabbed his arm and pulled him along behind me
out into the hall. “Where’s Scott?!” I panicked, looking around. “No idea.” I
could feel fear, as well as anger, and it was leading me out towards the front
door. “Rae!” Lydia came running up. “Let me guess, you’re hearing a noise? What
is it?” I asked looking at her terrified face. “It’s Scott’s voice. Random
things he’s said today.” “Where to Lydia?” She swallowed. “Um I hear waves, and
an echoey sound.” I concentrated on what she was saying. “The beach. They went
to the beach.” I tore out the front door, and to Stiles’ jeep.
“Oh Scott. I didn’t want this to be
you. See if Stiles hadn’t left you to go for the tramp. Well it’d be Rae
sitting here not you.” The lady was a sight to be held. She had long hair,
which turned into snakes. Her lower half had merged together as one. “Why? Why
did it have to be us?” He growled. Scott.
I want to help you. You need to get the shuriken. Snap it. She has me trapped
inside it. I can see and hear everything but if I open my mouth, I say what she
wants. My mind was steady but my person was not. I could hardly think on my
own let alone move or speak. I was being forced to stand like a bodyguard against
the wall. While Abby Brayden Monsune, circled my beautiful boyfriend, tracing
his shoulders. Ugh this woman pissed me off. ‘Tamara?! Where are you?’ All I heard was Rae. ‘Rae?! Help in the cave. I can’t move or speak and she’s slowly sucking
his life. Help!’ No reply. Suddenly a hissing sound was heard, but
not from Abby. A line of fire and sparks shot out, and hit her, throwing her
against the wall. My tail flew from her grasp, and into Stiles hand. ‘Break it! BREAK IT!’ I screamed at him
but nothing worked. Rae tilted her head looking at me, then snatched the tail.
She held it and with a quick snap, broke it.
Rae
Tamara
gasped, like she’d been holding her breath, and dropped. I untied Scott and
stood back as he held her. “T? You ok?” He asked, tracing her face. She coughed
and then sat up. “Where are the other tails? If she gets ahold of them, I’ll be
her puppet and nothing will stop her or me.” I smiled. “They’re hiding. Don’t
worry.” I hugged her and sighed in relief. As I glanced around, I noticed the
freaky lady was gone. “She’s gone!” I gasped, standing up, grabbing Stiles’
arm. “She’s gone.”
