Couple Weeks In
A couple weeks after getting used to everything...
Couch yelled at Scott as he missed another ball, that Liam had flung at him. I stood, at the edge of the field, feet pointed at each other, nervous because I wasn't here to watch the practice or ask for help on the Economics paper Coach had assigned. I was here to see Stiles. I watched him as he nervously rolled his shoulders, then tilted his head as Scott pointed at me. Stiles turned and stood up straight smiling.
He waved, and was knocked down by two others. I gasped and dropped my bag, running out to him. "Stiles? Are you ok?" He opened his eyes and smiled weakly. "I need mouth to mouth." I giggled, then looked up to find a very pissed off coach. "Get off my damn field. NOW!" At first I thought he was talking to me, but after I had stood to leave he stayed looking at Stiles. "Stilinski! Move it! You're benched this practice." He groaned, stood and jogged off to where I was now sitting. "Hey... Sorry I didn't mean to get you benched." I sighed looking down.

"Nah it's ok. I wouldn't have stood if I hadn't wanted to be benched. I grinned at him, and playfully punched my arm. That's when I saw it. A bunch of kids running around the corner of the bleachers. "COACH!" screamed one of the girls. "What? What the hell?" He turned to look at the group of kids. "Something terrible has happened! One of the boys, got attacked in the locker room." Scott came running up. "Stiles." Stiles stood and then stopped. He looked at me and grabbed my hand.
"Where are we going?" I gasped, regretting wearing strapped heels. "This wasn't an attack. Well it was but not by a human. There are other things out there. And right now we're dealing with Berserkers, Were-Jaguars, Were-Coyotes and the occasional Windigo, or Kanima." I groaned, "Just explain later. I'm so confused." We pushed past kids crowding in to see the boy laying on the ground. A cop put his hands out, and Stiles tippy-toed. "Dad!" Another cop, turned, "Let them in Parrish." He nodded and let us by. "Dad, this is Rae. Rae this is my dad, Sherriff John Stilinski." I took Sherriff Stilinski's hand and shook it, smiling. "Hello sir." He returned the greeting and then turned back to Scott and Stiles.
"Is she one of the..?" Scott shook his head. "I'm a Phoenix, sir." He sighed. "This is all new to me. I am still trying to get a grasp on half the stuff I see now. How do your parents cope with it?" I shrugged, "They don't know." He nodded thoughfully and then went back to another investigator. I walked up behind the boys who were crouched examining it. Lydia and Tamara came in, and Scott whispered to Sherriff John. "Okay, everyone out! Close off the perimeter, I need to question these youngsters."
Question us? What did I do wrong? Once the area had been cleared, Scott crouched beside the body. "See this marks?" He asked John. "They aren't claws. They're more narrow and defined." I got closer and my heart almost stopped. I knew what they were... I looked at Stiles. He grinned at me and grabbed my hand. "Try not to look so scared." He chuckled. "I can hear your heart. Why is it going so fast?" Scott asked. All eyes turned to me.

"Scotts right. Those aren't claw marks." I sighed. "Well what are they?" Sherriff Stilinski asked. "You don't want to know." I whispered, eyes wide. "To hell I do." He gruffed. "Do you know what a Benu is?" I asked them. They shook their heads. "Well I'll explain the whole story later. A Benu was born at creation. To put it lightly, they are born with it. They don't stumble upon, it. It's something they have had all their lives." Scott licked his lips. "So more dangerous, more experienced, and crazy new to our Beastiary." I shook my head. "It's in the Beastiary."
"The Benu is basically a dangerous version of a Phoenix. The evil cousin. Something, someone you don't want to mess with. They usually are loners, or social butterflys." Everyone looked at Lydia. "What?" Scott grinned. "Oh no. No, last time I got the smile I ended up throwing a party." Stiles nodded. "Ugh! Fine. But only if Rae comes." I nodded and smiled. "Of course. I just have to find somewhere Claire can stay. We still have to find a place to stay." Stiles jumped up. "Stay with us! I mean if you're okay with that dad. We have the guestroom." John glared at Stiles, then smiled. "Ok. Sure." On impulse I hugged Mr.Stilinski, then I hugged Stiles. Except I had placed my hands under and around, onto his shoulders. "Thank you!"
(The Benu comes from ancient Egyptian mythology. It is a bird that was born at creation and was worshiped at the city of Heliopolis. It is a heron-like bird with a crest of two long feathers that come from the rear of its head. The Benu is reborn each day after its journey through the night. The Benu is associated with the gods of the sun; it accompanies the souls of the dead on the boat of Ra on its journey through the underworld.
The Benu was the first creature to come from the sea at creation and the first piece of land it stood on a temple was built this is said to be Heliopolis. It is thought that the Benu bird is much like the Phoenix. The Greek Historian Herodotus visited Egypt and described the bird that the priests showed him as the western bird Phoenix.)
